Utopia Parkway literary journal
Utopia Parkway is Queens College’s student-led undergraduate literary journal, hosted in the Department of English. In Dec 2023 I volunteered to serve as co-faculty advisor alongside Prof. Ryan Black (English), with a goal of expanding the journal’s relationship to visual art. That work has included recruiting design students to the editorial team; mentoring student editors in editorial collaboration; and leading design and production of the Spring 2024–Spring 2026 issues.
I consider this role an extension of my teaching. Several of my students have served as editors, and the journal has given many illustration-focused students their first opportunity to see their work professionally published.
Four design students served on the editorial team this year, one of whom took on the responsibility of editor in chief. Two of these editors collaborated on the cover illustration. The interior features art from 15 design students and recent graduates. We also started a Utopia Parkway YouTube channel for hosting time-based media contributions.
